Bedroom re-do switcheroo

For part of Emily's birthday my sister Yvonne and my mom gave her a gift card to re-do her room. Emily has had the master bedroom for the last 10 years so with the drum set gone I seized the opportunity to re-claim my room! So, you are now entering a no judgement zone. My bedroom has had this paint scheme for 10 years and is very outdated. Yes, it is purple and yes, it is sponge paint. I had already prepped to paint for Emily's new colors when I remembered to take the pictures so the blue tape is a current addition.

Farewell drum set

Emily made the choice to sell her drum set. I was surprised that she wanted to do it. She has been playing the drums since 5th grade. She is ready to focus on getting ready for college and the older the set gets the less they would of been worth. She got $10.00 less than her asking price so she was super happy.

One last jam session.

PLEASE MOM!!

This is my two silly children. They wanted Dairy Queen one night and I didn't say yes fast enough so they started begging. How could I resist these two cuties? I didn't, we went.

Oh CRAP!

I have confirmed that I can not do two things at once. I was backing out of the garage and thought I cleared my mom's car so I quickly looked down to either turn off the radio or turn up the air and BAM! I hit her car. This is why I don't text and drive!

The only damage to my car. A crunkle in the bumper

My mom's car didn't fare so well. She will need a new bumper, headlight and fender. She also can not open the passenger door. I can hardly wait for the repair bill.

What a deal!

Emily has such a sense of style. She built this outfit all by herself.

These shoes were on clearance at Payless for $5.00

The belt on clearance at Kohl's for $2.55

Dress at Target on sale for 18.53. The total for the whole outfit = 26.37.

How do they measure up?

Oops, This is a picture of Rob's unusual sunburn. He had worked all day in the sun putting together someones patio furniture. He didn't realize that his shirt was up just a little in the back. When he got home he kept complaining about his back bothering him. I can see why.

Drum roll please. The numbers are in and it's official. Emily grew a whopping 2/16 of an inch to make her an even 5'4". Jeremy grew another 2 1/2 inches to make him an even 5'7''. We think Emily is all done but Jeremy has more growing to do.

4th of July dud!

We have a tradition in our family to go down to the Henry Ford Greenfield Village Fireworks show. It is really fun. The DSO plays beautiful music and the Chef's make fried chicken. Sanders is there with their wonderful cream puffs. We meet my aunt and cousin down there. We have learned from past experience that people are crazy and will do anything to get to the open field first to claim their spot. The first couple of years we would be power walking down to the field with the rest of the idiots. Now we send Rob and Jeremy with 2 chairs and a blanket while the girls take their time walking down there with the cooler and other chairs in a wagon. This year was no different. We arrived to 90 + degrees, 100 % humidity and blue skies. We got settled in at about 6:30 and picked up our chicken dinner while we waited for the music to start at 7:00. At about 7:30 a lady came on the stage and said that everyone needed to seek shelter. They were going to open several buildings but there would not be enough room for everyone so if you could make it to your car please do that. Well, before we could get our chairs folded it started to rain buckets. I had 3 rain coats, my aunt had 1 and a big umbrella. The boys agreed to let the girls have the rain coats and we all huddled together. Let's say that I wish we would have tried to make it to shelter. The rain was coming down so hard and the wind was about 65 mph and then the hail started. Rob took his shirt off and wrung out a cup of water. It was not pleasant! So, at 8:30 we made the decision to go home. It took us 15 minutes to walk back to our car and it took my mom and Rob about 30 minutes. When we left at 9:00 the Henry Ford still had not made a decision about if they were going to have a show or not. About 5 minutes down the road the sky turned green and we were afraid that a tornado was on the way. I think what makes me mad is that we paid money to go to this event and they have a no rain check policy. It's not like we didn't try to hang in there. I am calling them in the morning to complain.

These are the black rain clouds we walked to our car with. It was still raining and it was scary!

The above pictures are of the opening of the program. This is the Drum and Fife Corp. I feel sorry for them because they march in authentic uniforms but they sound great!
