How I See Things

One of my favorite places to hang out on a cold day is The Henry Ford museum. On Martin Luther King day the kids and I headed down for a visit. It is a great day to visit because there is so much civil rights history there and they have great presentations too. I decided to just take some snapshots of things that caught my eye.

This is a statue of my favorite president, Abraham Lincoln.

The picture doesn't do this craftsmanship justice. I guess you will have to visit and see it for yourself.

Down the main hallway leading into the museum are all of these beautiful chandeliers.

At the top of the windows in the hallway have these brass looking eagles.

I'm pretty sure that this is from the ground breaking of the museum. I'll have to read the sign better next visit.

The Wienermobile, enough said.

I guess this is me?

Chrome! Grill of a 1965 Mustang.

No, I didn't goof on this picture, she is an upside down wing walker.

The presidential seal on the Kennedy limo.

The flag on the front of the Kennedy limo.

If you follow the "road" you can see the evolution of cars. The museum is in the process of taking this exhibit apart and replacing it with something new. I can't wait to see what they do.

Happy New Year!!

We rang in the new year very quietly at home. Emily went to the annual party at the church and danced the night away with friends. Rob and I tried to not fall asleep before mid-night. This is our usual picture of the kids counting in the new year.

p.s. I dvr'ed the count down and made the kids re-enact the whole thing since Emily wasn't actually home. Shhh....don't tell.

Christmas 2010

I love Christmas and everything it stands for. As I was trying to buy gifts for the kids they said they really didn't want or need anything. The kids are old enough to know that times can be a little tight and that if we were all happy and healthy we really couldn't ask for anything else. Don't get me wrong, the kids did get Christmas gifts and they were happy with them. Emily asked that we not buy her anything this year since she wanted to go on the band trip to Disney in Feburary and the cost is $800.00. I must say that the day was great. We opened presents and spent quality time together before heading down to my brothers. We are truly blessed!!

Emily checking out her stocking stuffers while wearing the hat her brother bought her.

The biggest surprise for Jeremy is the Madden 2011 game. He had been told by the guy at Target that Play station 2 games would no longer be made. His wonderful mother found this PS2 coveted game at the local grocery store.

Emily lost our hymn book last year and this year I replaced it, so did her piano teacher. We now have two copies and that's ok. I also picked up two other piano pieces that she is currently working on.

Emily got Jeremy the video of the best of Michigan Football and I found the book online for him.

Emily's stocking was stuffed with the things she needed. A new calendar, Taylor Swift's new cd, lotion called Forever Sunshine (Sunshine is one of her nicknames) and yes those are Ninja stars.

Jeremy was filled with joy when he opened the gift card to the pet shop. He has been bugging us for a fish and this meant he could get one. The first one he picked died 5 days later so Bob went back to the store in a baggie and now Fish resides with us.

Happy Birthday Rob!

We like to get together with my aunt and cousin Sarah. For Rob's birthday we met at Benihana. We had never been there before but it was very fun. We even sang happy birthday to the beat of a very loud drum and had ice cream.

Our cook making the veggie fried rice.

Rob and the kids watching the cook make chicken.

We found it interesting that we were in a Japanese restaurant and our cook was Alfredo a Hispanic man.

Jeremy had to have his own hat. He looks like Alfredo.

That girl can really kick butt!

Once again I forgot how to put the pictures in the correct order so these are in reverse order. We are so proud of Emily. She started karate in the fall of 2004 at 9 years old. She earned her black belt almost 6 years to the day of earning her first belt.

Emily moved up the line because she is older than the two black belts to her left.

Shaking hands with Grand Master Saffold.

A tradition in this class is that the black belts surround the newest black belt and the Master ties the last knot of the new belt.

Emily putting on her new belt. Her official belt is on order. It will have her name on it in English and in Korean. She will also get a jacket that is trimmed in Black and she will wear black pants in class.

One of the 3 board breaks she had to do. This is her palm heel strike.

Round house kick. It is impossible to get the actual break. Trust me, I have tried. She also did a spinning hook kick.

The thing that made me most nervous is that she had to fight 2 black belts at once. They didn't take it easy on her either. If you notice she did this with out her glasses on which means she could only see blurry people in front of her.

A picture of her entire class. As you can see Emily is so excited and proud of herself.

The boys of Fall

So, there is a great song by Kenny Chesney called The Boy's of Fall. It is about football and it made me think of Jeremy. He decided to play football this fall for his school team. These pictures are from his last game on November 1st. Until this game they were undefeated.

Jeremy is #96 but you can only see the 6 in this picture.

I wish I could of taken a better picture of Jeremy and his team mates. He is a head taller than most of his team. There are only 5 or 6 boys who are tall like him. Jeremy was the wide receiver and his coach was so proud of him for knocking a kid on his butt so our guy could score. I'm just glad we ended the season with no injuries.

Hard Rock Cafe and Halloween

We love to get together with my aunt Rita and cousin Sarah. We went to Greenfield village to do some trick or treating. This is a fun night walking through the village and picking up treats along the path.

I forget how much this pumpkin weighed but it was like 700 lbs.

The path is lined with hundreds of carved pumpkins. Emily had a great time taking pictures of them.

Before we went to trick of treat we met for dinner downtown Detroit at the Hard Rock Cafe.

I just loved this stain glass window in the cafe.
